TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS PATTERN
Links to videos for selected techniques are included. I look for videos as close as possible to the instructions I have written. Sometimes they may be slightly different but still very helpful. - Cast-on
- 2 x 2 ribbing on circular needles
- k2tog
- Crown knit on double-pointed needles
- M1
- Slip 1, k2tog, psso
- Weave row to row only if Method I was used after cast-on
- Cross stitch
- I-cord

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE
Noro Yarns—Cash Iroha
1.4 ounces-(40 grams) - 99 yards-(90.5 meters) each skien
40% silk - 30% lamb's wool - 20% cashmere - 10%Nylon
2 skeins Main Color for all sizes
1 skein Contrasting Color
For your hat to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.
FOR A SUBSTITUTE YARN
SUGGESTED NEEDLE SIZES
- Size 6-(4mm) circular needle, 16 inches-(40.6 cm) long
- Size 9-(5.5 mm) circular needle, 16 inches-(40.6 cm) long
- Size 9-(5.5 mm) double pointed needles (set of 4 or 5 needles)
- 2 small size (size 2, 3 or 4) double pointed needles for I-cord bow
NOTIONS
- Ring marker
- Five small safety pins
- Tapestry needle
GAUGE
- 17 stitches and 26 rounds = 4 inches-(10 cm) in stockinette stitch on size 9-(5.5 mm) needles
