SOCK MEASUREMENTS

These measurements are based on a Heel Flap Sock

  • Circumference of cuff * to beginning of Heel Flap.
  • Heel Flap measurement is beginning of Heel Flap to turn of heel.
  • Heel to Toe measurement is from beginning of heel turn to just before the toe decrease.
  • Toe measurement is from beginning of toe decrease to end of toe.
  • Total Foot Length is measurement from beginning of heel turn to end of toe.

* The most important measurement is the circumference of your calf.
Choose a spot that's near the widest area to be covered by the sock and   measure it and   reduce this number by 25%.
For example: If your calf measures 11 inches, subtract 25% to get 8.25   inches to  cast on.

Tips for Longer-Lasting Socks

  • Winding a skein into a too tight ball stretches the yarn. After you knit the yarn will relax and the socks will be too small.
  • Wool and wool/nylon blends are the best choice for socks because of their elasticity.
  • Choose high-quality sock yarn
  • Knit the right size socks.
  • Rinse socks separately before washing with other items. While dye shouldn't run, super-saturated colors might and you don't want your other socks to be affected - or use Shout's color catcher if washing in the washing machine.
  • Turn socks inside-out when washing.
  • Don't wash socks in hot water. Even socks labeled "superwash" could felt or shrink a bit.
  • Lay socks flat to dry. Over time, machine drying will make socks look worn. The intense heat of drying might also break down fibers.
