This silk purse is a stunner. It gets it swing from the many darts—a good introduction to knitting darts. We trimmed the sample with black 1/4" black ribbon at the top of the darts for accent and crocheted 1 row of single crochet along the lower edge also in black.

SIZE:

approximately 13" wide x 10.5" high (without frame)

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE:

Plymouth Yarns—Ecco Silk (this yarn comes in ivory only)
100% silk
50 grams—147 yards each skein

5 skeins - approximately 735 yards are needed for this purse

For your purse to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important.

It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.

NEEDLES:

size 6 straight needles or size needles to obtain the correct gauge

OTHER NOTIONS:

10" purse frame—antique gold or silver
21" purse chain—antique gold or silver
¼" narrow ribbon; or embellishments of your choice.
1/2 yard fabric for lining—optional

GAUGE:

23 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch on size 6 needles or needles to obtain the correct gauge

SKILL LEVEL:

	Projects with a variety of stitches, such as basic cables and lace, simple intarsia, double-pointed needles and knitting in the round needle techniques, mid-level shaping and finishing.
