FINISHED SIZE:
approximately 7 inches-(18 cm) high x 12 inches-(30.4 cm) wide
            x 2 inches-(5 cm) deep

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE:

Berroco Yarns - NaturLin
55% rayon - 45% linen
1.75 ounces (50 grams)       115 yards-(105 meters) each skein
10 skeins

Note: yarn is quadrupled for purse and doubled for ruffle

I made a second purse, getting the same gauge, using:

Knit One, Crochet Too Yarns - 2nd Time Around Cotton
75% recycled cotton - 25% acrylic
3.5 ounces-(100 grams)—180 yards-(164.5 meters) each skein
5 skeins
Note: yarn is tripled for purse and used single for ruffle

Note: Use a yarn that you have to use more than one strand to obtain the gauge so that the ruffle can be knit with fewer strands than the purse.

For your purse to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important.

It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.

NEEDLES:
size 9-(5.5 mm) straight needle; or size needles to obtain the correct gauge
sizes 6, 7 and 8-(4, 4.5, and 5 mm) circular needles, 24 inches-(61 cm)
         long for ruffle

NOTIONS:
gauge ruler
tracking sheet—included with pattern
tapestry needle
faux leather strap—approximately 27 inches-(68.5 cm) long
large snap
½ yard-(45.7 cm) lining (optional)
embellishments of your choice

GAUGE:

14 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches-(10 cm) using size 9-(5.5 mm) needles
working in garter stitch using 4 strands of NaturLin or 3 strands of 2nd
Time Around Cotton held together on size 9-(5.5 mm) needles

26 stitches = 4 inches working in 1 x 1 ribbing using
2 strands of NaturLin held together or 1 strand of 2nd Time Around Cotton

Stitch and row gauge vary when working 1 x 1 ribbing because needle size
is changed every few rows for ruffle.

SKILL LEVEL:
