* Do not view the - After Felting - gauge as precisely as you would when you take a gauge for a non-felted item. After felting the finished gauge will not be exactly as given. Felting is not an exact science. There are many variables, including the temperature of the water you are using, the agitation of your washing machine, how long you leave it in the water, the yarn you are using and even the color (white yarn sometimes doesn't felt very well: the bleaching process occasionally removes the felting ability of the fiber. That said, many whites do felt, so try a test to find out if yours does)
Start out with the before felting gauge. A loose gauge felts better than a tight one
