From the front this is a classic girl's drop shoulder cardigan with a round neckline. From the back this cardigan is unique, luckily children barely stand still. Knitting the flaps and adding them to the back of the cardigan is very simple.

The easy to follow pattern includes:

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE:
Brown Sheep Company - Cotton Fine
80% Pima Cotton - 20% Merino Wool
1.75 ounces - (50 grams)      222 yards - (203 m) each pull skein

3(4, 5) pull skeins
1 skein of DMC Embroidery Floss or and small amount of compatible yarn

For your cardigan to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important.

It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.


FOR A SUBSTITUTE YARN CLICK HERE
NEEDLES:
size 3-(3.25 mm) and size 5-(3.75 mm) straight needles; or size needles
         to obtain the correct gauge
size 3-(3.25 mm) and size 5-(3.75 mm) circular needles, 16 inches-(40.6 cm)
         long if knitting the hat in the round
6(8,9) double pointed needles size 5-(3.75 mm) to use to temporarily hold
         flaps, shoulders and back neck edge and for crown of hat knit on
         circular needles.



NOTIONS:
gauge ruler
tracking sheet – included with pattern
tapestry needle
5 small safety pins for hat on circular needles only
6(7, 8) buttons 5/8 inch- (15mm) size



GAUGE:
24 stitches x 34 rows = 4 inches-(10 cm) in stockinette stitch on size
       5-(3.75 mm) needles
