children's blanket 9 - tag

child_afghan_tag

This is a very easy technique to achieve a gingham plaid effect. Using two colors and doubling the yarn, you get three different color ways:
2 strands of A held together,
2 strands of B held together
1 strand of A held together with 1 strand of B.

A very portable project because the afghan is knit in seed stitch in strips. The afghan looks great with or without fringe.

FINISHED SIZE:
34 inches wide x 34 inches long

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE:
2 balls SandnesGarn - Lanett
100% merino wool
50 grams - 214 yards each

NOTE: AFGHAN IS MADE USING TWO STRANDS OF YARN HELD TOGETHER THROUGHOUT.

Without fringe: 5 balls Color A
                           4 balls Color B

With fringe: 7 balls Color A
                     5 balls Color B

For the blanket to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important.

It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.

NEEDLES:
size 9 straight needles; or size needles to obtain the correct gauge
size F crochet hook (to pull fringe through afghan)

OTHER NOTIONS:
gauge ruler
tapestry needle

GAUGE:
15 stitches and 26 rows = 3.75 inch (1 square) in seed stitch; on size 9 needles;
USING 2 STRANDS OF YARN HELD TOGETHER

You should use the recommended gauge, but it does not have to be as precise as for a sweater. If you are knitting tighter than the recommended gauge, the blanket will be smaller and use less yarn. If you are knitting looser than the recommended gauge, the blanket will be larger and use more yarn. Try different size needles if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
